Ping.fm is absolutely fantastic, I use it for my Canon reviews site and it really makes social networking easy.
But what about good old Facebook? I reckon it should be right next to Twitter at least.

I already use Tweetdeck but never heard of ping.fm . Seems like a very convenient way to handle broadcasting. You are an absolute IM veteran having been at it since 2001. I think there's too much spammers on Twiitter these days who need to take lessons on effective internet marketing from you.

I personally feel social networking is overrated. From what I've heard it's a lot of hype but doesn't produce a lot of results. However, I will have to experiment with it myself to find out if this is true or not. Are you personally making good money from it?

I don't even remember hearing about Ning :P, so I have no comment for Ning.
But I do agree with some of people here. You could use social networking to add friends in your network. I used to use Friendster, but now I use Facebook a lot. Facebook can be very helpful since you can make groups that you can manage too.
